Born in Cascais, Miguel Laffan was known for making Alentejo one of the premium destinations for gastronomic travels when, in 2011, he won his first Michelin star in L’And Vineyards restaurant. This was the first (and only) star of the region in the red guide.
Before that, he had been working in Fortaleza do Guincho, by then under the orientation of the chef Antoine Westermann, 3* Michelin. From there he went to the restaurant of Roland Chanliuad (Beune, France, 1* Michelin), the Le Jardin des Remparts, and then to the Le Clous de la Violette, of Jean-Marc Banzo (Aix-en-Provence, France, 2* Michelin).
As executive chef he worked in Casa Velha do Palheiro Hotel (Funchal, Madeira) and in Quinta da Casa Branca Hotel (also in Funchal) until he returned to L’And Vineyards, where he turned a page in the national gastronomy.
